CHAPTER 02 OF 06

Through the sea

Sea crossing · location debated

With the sea ahead and Pharaoh’s army behind, the people are afraid. Moses stretches out his hand, a path opens through the waters, and Israel crosses into freedom.

Exodus 14:13–31

You might be wondering...

Where did the sea crossing happen?

The precise location is debated. The Hebrew name Yam Suph is often rendered “Red Sea” or “Sea of Reeds”; this map illustrates one possible route, not an established crossing site.

What happened after the crossing?

Moses and the Israelites sing a song of deliverance. Miriam leads the women with tambourines and dancing before the people continue into the wilderness.
