A difficult choice on Crete

Fair Havens · The season is turning

Much time has been lost, and sailing has become dangerous. Paul warns against continuing. The centurion follows the pilot and shipowner’s advice, hoping to reach Phoenix for the winter. A gentle south wind encourages them to leave.

Acts 27:9–13

Crete is shown as an island chapter; the harbors are not individually pinned.

You might be wondering...

Why did they want to leave Fair Havens?

Acts says the harbor was unsuitable for wintering. Most aboard hoped to reach Phoenix, another harbor on Crete, and spend the winter there (Acts 27:12).

Why was Paul concerned?

The season for safe sailing was passing and the journey had already been delayed. Paul warns that continuing would bring damage and danger (Acts 27:9–10).
