Changing ships at Myra

Lycia · An Alexandrian ship

At Myra in Lycia, Julius finds an Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy and transfers the travelers aboard. Progress is slow. Against difficult winds, they sail toward Cnidus and then under the shelter of Crete.

Acts 27:5–8

Selected ports are shown; the line simplifies the coastal stages described in Acts.

You might be wondering...

Why did they change ships?

The centurion finds a ship at Myra that is sailing to Italy, their destination, and places the prisoners and their companions aboard (Acts 27:6).

What made progress difficult?

Acts repeatedly mentions contrary winds and slow sailing. The ship follows sheltered waters where possible before reaching Crete (Acts 27:4–8).
