Egypt · Waiting and interpreting dreams

Falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, Joseph is imprisoned. There he is trusted with responsibility and meets Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker. He interprets their dreams, but the restored cupbearer initially forgets him.

The prison’s exact location is not stated.

You might be wondering...

Why was Joseph imprisoned?

After Joseph refuses Potiphar’s wife, she falsely accuses him. Potiphar has him confined in the prison where the king’s prisoners are kept (Genesis 39).

Who eventually remembered Joseph?

When Pharaoh is troubled by dreams two years later, the chief cupbearer recalls Joseph’s interpretations and tells Pharaoh about him (Genesis 41:1–13).
