Returning to Canaan

Canaan · Room to settle, a promise renewed

Abram returns from Egypt and revisits the altar near Bethel. When the land cannot support his household and Lot’s together, they separate. Abram later settles near Hebron and builds an altar.

Genesis 13:1–18

Abraham is called Abram at this point in the story.

You might be wondering...

Why did Abram and Lot separate?

Their flocks and herds had grown so large that the land could not support them together, and their herders were quarreling. Abram proposed separating peacefully.

Where did Abram settle?

Genesis 13:18 says that Abram moved his tents to the trees of Mamre near Hebron and built an altar there. The final marker shows this part of the return to Canaan.
