Why was Paul imprisoned?

In Philippi, Paul freed an enslaved girl from a spirit used for fortune-telling. When her owners lost their source of income, they seized Paul and Silas and accused them before the magistrates. The two were beaten and imprisoned without a trial.

Acts continues with their prayers in prison, an earthquake, and the jailer’s response to their message. On their release, Paul insisted that the officials acknowledge how they had treated Roman citizens.
